How to stay mentally healthy during a pandemic

Hey guys! I hope you are doing fine, or at least somehow coping with all that's happening and most importantly keeping up with your zoom lectures! To be honest, ever since the first lockdown here in Switzerland my mental health has been 📉, but seriously it's actually hard to adapt to what it seems is this new reality. Not being able to see your best friends and family and social distancing can get very lonely sometimes. But thank the lord you found this blog. Always my pleasure to help a poor soul out.

Anyways, let's talk self-care.

I feel like we actively practice self-care way too rarely and with 'us' I mean literally anybody living in this fast-paced world. We're always caught up in our studies, work, friends and family and it seems like there's no time left for what's most important- us. Since the (please read it in the Cardi B voice) Corona virus outbreak we have been forced to isolate and maybe for the first time in a long time just be with ourselves and our thoughts. And besides attending lovely zoom meetings or pretending to work from home, dealing with your thoughts, feelings and fears can be very challenging for our mental health. Here are some ways to ease your mind.

  1. Take a moment to practice gratitude

For just 10-15 minutes a day, make a list of all the things you are grateful for or things that made you feel good. This could be your parents, your boyfriend/girlfriend, the amazing smell of your freshly made coffee or cuddling with your pet. If we start appreciating the little things in life it will be easier to overcome our bigger obstacles.

2. Start meditating

If you actually try, meditation can be very relaxing for a troubled mind. Just sit down in your comfiest chair or lay down on your bed and listen to relaxing sounds and just focus on your breathing. You can also do a guided meditation on YouTube. Below some of my favourite meditation videos/sounds:

3. Take care of yourself

Put on a nice mask, take a hot bubble bath or enjoy your favourite Netflix show. Do what actually makes you feel good (as far as your not breaking any lockdown rules). This also includes doing some exercise and eating healthy, wholesome meals. Don't be too lazy to cook for yourself, you're worth the effort!

I hope these tips will help you and let me know what you do to not go crazy.

xx

Diana
